Criminal Defense

Protecting Your Rights & Freedom

At Thomas, Birdsong, Mills & McBride, P.C., our lawyers vigorously represent clients accused of a wide range of criminal offenses, from minor infractions and misdemeanors to serious felony charges.

Cases We Handle

Criminal charges vary in severity. No matter what you have been charged with, rest assured that our team has the knowledge, experience, and resources needed to handle your case effectively.

We represent people charged with drug crimes, DWI/DUI, traffic offenses, murder, sex offenses and child sex offenses, child abuse, assault, domestic violence, drug possession, narcotics sales, conspiracy, arson, burglary, theft and grand larceny, credit card fraud, and passing bad checks.

If you have not yet been charged with a crime but are under investigation, our Rolla criminal defense attorneys can provide pre-indictment representation. With our help, it is possible that the police investigation could close and you could avoid charges altogether.

Handling Serious Murder Cases

Committed to the aggressive defense of our clients’ rights within the criminal justice system, our lawyers have earned an excellent reputation among prosecutors for our work in murder cases, including death penalty cases. Ours is one of very few small firms statewide to have tried the number of murder cases we have and show a strong record of acquittals.

How We Approach Criminal Cases

In all of our criminal defense work, we begin with a thorough interview with the client, seeking to understand the full scope of the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the arrest. We conduct an independent investigation and proceed aggressively with discovery until we are satisfied that we know what evidence the prosecution has gathered and what kind of case the prosecution is building.

Our investigation includes an examination of the police report and interviews with witnesses, looking for infringements of constitutional rights, illegal searches and seizures, or otherwise flawed police work. We file motions to suppress evidence and pretrial motions designed to protect our clients’ rights. Our Rolla criminal defense attorneys negotiate with the prosecution regarding plea arrangements and prepare our clients and witnesses for trial before presenting the case to the jury.

Testimonials

5/5
“I was represented by David Mills in a civil litigation and was so impressed by his work ethic that even though at one time I thought we had no chance to win, he researched the case so thoroughly that we won and even his legal fees were very fair. I would definitely recommend him and his firm.”

“Recently, I was represented by Scott McBride as a defendant in a minor, but not insignificant, legal matter. We had never met before and I had no experience hiring an attorney. Needless to say, I was nervous about what it would cost and what would happen next, etc. I am relieved to say that nervousness was quickly replaced with confidence. Scott was professional, yet approachable. He explained things clearly, offered opinions based on experience (without sugar coating it), and I always knew where we stood with the case. When he wasn't immediately available, his staff kindly helped me. Other law firms may have done an adequate job, too. But I'm glad I chose this one.”
